Soybean Prices Rise at Brazil’s Paranaguá Port as Export Outlook Shifts

Arabfields, Naïla Mokhtari, Correspondent, São Paulo, Brasil — Soybean prices at Brazil’s Paranaguá port strengthened in late October, offering fresh support to farmers and exporters as the world’s largest soybean supplier enters a new planting season amid shifting global demand and currency volatility.

The benchmark price for a 60-kilogram bag of soybeans in Paranaguá reached 155.55 reais on October 26, following a daily increase of 2.06%, according to market data. Prices in Brazil’s interior Paraná region also advanced, rising 1.70% to 149.18 reais per bag.

Despite the latest gains, the market remains under pressure from earlier declines. Paranaguá prices were still 3.72% below their level at the beginning of October, highlighting the uneven recovery in domestic trading.

For farmers such as those operating across southern Brazil, these fluctuations can have a direct impact on decisions about when to sell their harvest. A stronger port price can improve returns, but producers must also account for transport costs, financing expenses and the risk of further market movements.

Brazil’s broader export outlook remains significant. The National Supply Company, known as Conab, estimated the country’s 2026/27 soybean production at a record 181.6 million metric tons, representing a 0.7% increase from the previous season. Soybean exports are projected to reach 118 million metric tons, up 1.5% year on year.

However, international conditions are complicating the outlook. A weaker Brazilian real can make Brazilian soybeans more competitive for overseas buyers while increasing the domestic-currency value of export sales. At the same time, prices on the Chicago Board of Trade have faced pressure from the US harvest and expectations of abundant global supplies.

China remains a central buyer of Brazilian soybeans, making trade relations and purchasing patterns particularly important for exporters. Brazil shipped approximately 100.2 million metric tons of soybeans abroad during the first part of 2026, up 6.7% from the same period a year earlier, with China accounting for about 70 million metric tons.

The next major test will come as Brazil’s new crop develops and additional supplies become available in early 2027. Favourable weather and a strong harvest could increase export volumes, but abundant supply may also limit further price gains. Conversely, adverse weather, stronger international demand or currency movements could tighten market conditions and support prices.

For now, the recent rise at Paranaguá offers a measure of relief to sellers, but it does not yet signal a sustained upward trend. Farmers, traders and exporters are likely to remain cautious as they weigh immediate selling opportunities against the possibility of better returns in the months ahead.
