Paraguay Advances in Sustainable Agriculture and Technological Innovation to Boost Family Farming
Asunción, Paraguay – Paraguay’s strides in sustainable agriculture and technological innovation took center stage on Wednesday during a conference on sustainable agriculture for family farms, organized by the National Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (Inbio) in Asunción. The event brought together agricultural experts, policymakers, and producers to discuss strategies for enhancing small-scale farming while addressing climate and economic challenges.
Inbio Vice President Héctor Cristaldo emphasized the critical role of technology training and cooperation among producers in improving the productivity of small farms and strengthening rural economies. “Collaboration and technological adoption are essential to empowering family farmers,” Cristaldo stated. He highlighted that these efforts not only improve yields but also contribute to the long-term sustainability of farming practices.

In a parallel development, Paraguay’s Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Giménez, met with representatives from Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) to explore the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into agricultural production. The discussions focused on leveraging AI to enhance efficiency and sustainability in aquaculture and orchid cultivation—two sectors with significant growth potential for Paraguay.
The Taiwanese delegation introduced an AI-based system designed for climate control and risk reduction. This cutting-edge technology uses data analysis to improve decision-making, optimize resource use, and minimize production risks. By adopting precision agriculture tools, Paraguay aims to bolster its competitiveness in global markets while ensuring environmental sustainability.
The partnership between Paraguay and Taiwan seeks to expand the use of advanced technologies in agriculture, including advancements in garlic cultivation—a crop that has garnered increasing attention in the country. During the meeting, Minister Giménez highlighted Paraguay’s potential as a hub for garlic production, showcasing its benefits to international experts.
