Arabfields, Imed Aissaoui, Oran, Algeria — Algeria is preparing to showcase its fruit and vegetable sector at Fruit Attraction 2026 in Madrid, as the country seeks to strengthen its presence in international markets and create new opportunities for agricultural exporters.
The international trade fair, scheduled for October 6 to 8 at the IFEMA exhibition centre, will bring together producers, exporters, importers, distributors and logistics companies from around the world. Algeria’s participation is being coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, which has invited local businesses to take part in the event.
For Algerian farmers and exporters, the fair offers an opportunity to move beyond traditional markets and establish relationships with international buyers. Access to new customers, improved distribution networks and greater visibility for locally produced goods could become important factors in the sector’s future expansion.
Fruit Attraction 2026 is expected to attract more than 2,500 companies and over 121,000 trade visitors from 150 countries, according to organisers. The event is projected to cover 162,000 square metres, reflecting the scale of competition and commercial activity in the global fresh produce industry.
The figures also point to the growing importance of international trade fairs as platforms for agricultural businesses seeking new markets. With 700 major buyers, retail purchasing managers, importers and wholesalers expected to be invited through the International Buyers Programme, Algerian exhibitors will have opportunities to explore potential commercial partnerships.
The exhibition will feature fresh produce, logistics services, agricultural technology and innovation-focused activities. Its digital LiveConnect platform will also allow participants to establish professional contacts remotely, potentially helping businesses maintain relationships beyond the three-day event.
For smaller Algerian producers, these opportunities could be particularly significant. Entering foreign markets often requires reliable logistics, consistent product quality and the ability to meet buyers’ commercial requirements. International exhibitions can provide a setting where companies assess these expectations and identify potential partners.
Algeria’s participation comes as the global fruit and vegetable industry continues to focus on innovation, supply chain efficiency and access to international consumers. The fair’s Innovation Hub and Innova&Tech areas will highlight technological solutions, smart agriculture and digital tools designed to improve production and distribution.
Looking ahead, Algeria’s presence at the Madrid exhibition could support further commercial discussions and contribute to the development of new export channels. However, the extent of any increase in agricultural exports will depend on the agreements reached, the competitiveness of Algerian products and the ability of companies to meet international market standards.
As the October event approaches, the participation of Algerian businesses will offer an opportunity to assess how effectively the country’s agricultural sector can translate international exposure into lasting commercial partnerships.
