G-Berries Unveils Premium Raspberry

Arabfields, Leonor Fernández de Córdoba, Correspondent, Spain — Berry producer G-Berries has introduced its first proprietary raspberry variety, marking a significant step in the company’s strategy to strengthen its position in the premium fresh fruit segment. The launch reflects growing investment in breeding programs as producers seek fruit with better flavor, longer shelf life and improved performance across international markets.

Company executives said the new raspberry has been developed to deliver a consistent eating experience while meeting the demands of growers, retailers and consumers. Early commercial trials have shown encouraging results, with participating farmers reporting healthy yields and strong fruit quality throughout the harvest period.

Growers involved in the first production season described the variety as easier to manage than some existing alternatives, citing its firmness and uniform appearance as key advantages. Retail buyers who evaluated the fruit during pilot shipments also noted its attractive presentation and balanced flavor, characteristics that continue to drive demand in the premium berry category.

The introduction comes as the global raspberry market continues to expand. Industry estimates for 2026 suggest worldwide raspberry production has surpassed 1.2 million tonnes, while premium berries account for an increasing share of supermarket sales. Consumer research indicates that nearly three quarters of regular berry buyers are willing to pay higher prices for fruit offering superior taste, freshness and reliable quality.

Market analysts believe proprietary berry varieties are becoming a major competitive advantage for producers seeking long-term growth. Exclusive genetics allow companies to differentiate their products while giving retailers greater confidence in maintaining consistent supply and quality throughout the season.

Industry observers expect G-Berries to gradually expand commercial plantings over the next several years as additional growers adopt the new variety. If consumer response remains positive and production volumes continue to rise, the raspberry could strengthen the company’s presence across European and export markets, contributing to continued growth in the premium berry sector as retailers increasingly prioritize branded, high-quality fruit.
