Russian Agriculture in 2025: Stability, Resilience, and Promising Prospects

Arabfields, Lamia Cherifa, Special Economic Correspondent, Moscow, Russia —Across the vast steppes and fertile black-earth regions of Russia, agriculture remains one of the undisputed pillars of the national economy and a source of collective pride. In 2025, Russia continues to demonstrate its ability to transform natural resources and agricultural expertise into a strategic asset, strengthening its position among the world’s leading producers.

The numbers speak for themselves: the total grain and legume harvest in 2024 reached 125.856 million tons, including 82.6 million tons of wheat, providing a solid foundation for domestic food security. While certain grains such as barley, maize, and rye experienced slight fluctuations, Russia’s agricultural sector continues to show remarkable resilience in the face of climatic and geopolitical challenges.

Livestock farming is another area of achievement. Meat production (livestock and poultry) reached 16.9 million tons, milk production 34.1 million tons, and egg production remains impressive at 46.5 billion units, ensuring a stable and consistent supply for the population. These results reflect the efficiency of modern farms and national genetic improvement programs, which maintain high standards of quality and productivity.

Russia is not merely producing for domestic consumption: the country continues to export to numerous international partners, strengthening its position in global agricultural trade. Infrastructure, cutting-edge technologies, and efficient supply chain management have secured production while optimizing distribution, reducing costs, and enhancing the competitiveness of Russian products abroad.

The future looks promising. With ongoing investments in irrigation, mechanization, and farm modernization, Russia could increase total grain production to 130–135 million tons by 2030 while maintaining high quality standards. The dairy and livestock sectors are expected to continue moderate but steady growth, reinforcing food security and meeting growing export demand.

Innovative technologies, such as urban vertical farming, will also help ensure a year-round supply of vegetables and fruits, reducing dependence on seasons and climate conditions. These advancements are poised to strengthen food autonomy, create new jobs in rural and peri-urban areas, and support environmental sustainability.

Russian agriculture in 2025 is a source of national pride. It combines tradition and innovation, scale and efficiency, ensuring strong harvests, abundant livestock production, and notable export capacity. This achievement, the result of sustained effort and clear strategic vision, illustrates the strength and resilience of a nation capable of turning challenges into opportunities.

In an uncertain global context, Russia demonstrates that a coherent and ambitious agricultural policy can ensure security, stability, and prosperity. Full silos, the availability of essential food products, and international competitiveness are clear evidence of a success that deserves to be celebrated and acknowledged.
