Favorable weather conditions, improved orchard management and continued investment in farming technology have encouraged producers to expect a healthy harvest in 2026.
Across the region, growers and agricultural workers have spent recent months caring for orchards, monitoring tree health and ensuring fruit quality ahead of the main harvest. Many family-owned farms say the season reflects years of investment in better irrigation systems and sustainable cultivation practices, allowing them to improve productivity while meeting stricter market requirements.
Mexico remains the world’s largest avocado producer, with national production forecast to reach about 2.8 million metric tons in 2026, an increase of roughly 3 percent compared with the previous year. Exports are projected to climb by around 7 percent to approximately 1.3 million metric tons, supported by strong international demand and continued access to key overseas markets. These figures have created new opportunities for producers in the State of Mexico to increase their presence alongside the country’s traditional avocado-growing regions.
Local producers believe quality will remain the main competitive advantage. Packing facilities have introduced stricter grading standards, while growers continue to adopt practices that improve traceability, food safety and environmental performance. Workers across the supply chain say these changes are helping strengthen confidence among international buyers while supporting long-term business relationships.
Industry representatives acknowledge that challenges remain. Production costs have increased and weather patterns continue to create uncertainty for farmers. Even so, current orchard conditions have reinforced confidence that the region can maintain stable output throughout the season.
Looking ahead, analysts expect the State of Mexico to play a larger role in the country’s avocado expansion as investment continues in orchard modernization and sustainable production. If export demand remains strong and growing conditions stay favorable, the region is expected to increase its contribution to Mexico’s avocado industry over the next several years while supporting employment and economic growth in rural communities.
